Kansas City Chiefs VS New England Patriots NFL Week 11
After winning the AFC West last season the (4-5) Kansas City Chiefs leave much to be desired. Things started going down hill with the loss of Jamaal Charles and has now picked up speed with the loss of Matt Cassel. Tom Brady’s (6-3) New England Patriots are firing on all cylinders and will be revving their motor to get at this slightly less potent Kansas City defence.
Brady is spreading the ball around to everyone on this offense now after relying on the Brady and Welker combination earlier in the season. Chad Ocho Cinco has failed miserably for Brady but Deion Branch has been a great target.
Bill Belichik will be looking to take it to the former Patriots mastermind Scott Pioli as he faces his former general manager. While Belichik is not the general manager that Pioli was he can coach a team and he will be chomping on the bit to show he can win without his former mentor.
The big question for this game is this; can the Patriots defence put together a good game against a terrible offense? Should the Chiefs tally more than 20 points in this match New England might as well pack it up now as they certainly wouldn’t be able to make it out of the round of the NFL play offs.
This defence is going to have to step up and stop someone as Brady can only score so many points. The biggest problem lies with the Patriots being weak in the corners. They need to play tighter on coverage and the safeties need to step up and help out on deep routes if the corners are poor in coverage.
Atlanta Falcons @ Pittsburgh Steelers 08-27-2011
For a team that had a tough off season, the Pittsburgh Steelers continue to look their very solid selves so far in the preseason. They lost in Week 1, a week that means next to nothing (less than nothing?) in every single since of the phrase, but showed some of their moxie with a 24-14 beating of the hyped Philadelphia Eagles.
Pittsburgh managed to intercept 3 of Michael Vick’s passes on way to a pretty easy win over their in-state rival. Big Ben continues to find ways to prolong plays, fighting off pass rushers and moving just enough to allow his stable of receivers to get open downfield.
The Falcons made some big time moves in the off season as well, getting some defensive line help for John Abraham, trading a lot of draft value for rookie receiver Julio Jones, and resigning some key components like Brent Grimes.
The Falcons, however, are 0-2 in preseason play getting beat by the Jaguars in Week 2 after falling to the Dolphins in Week 1. Both times they looked good in the first half when the starting units were on the field.
Both of these teams are very talented. Even though the Steelers might be getting a little long in the tooth, they are expected to compete for a title once again in 2011-2012. The Falcons, with their new additions, are expected to take the next step and get to that elite level where Pittsburgh has spent a lot of time over the years.

NFL Lockout – Who Wins the Most?
There is still no idea when precisely we are going to be actually playing football on the field, as the National Football League (NFL) lockout still in full effect. As the players have less time to practice and get ready for the 2011 season, it is a good time to look at the trickle-down effect that the lockout will have on other games.
If the lockout is not lifted soon, there are a lot of different things that can and will take place. It will squeeze whatever offseason there may be as it will be a long, hot, controversial summer. The teams will be forced to take a look at their own free agents and start courting them. They will buckle down such as Washington Redskins wide receiver Santana Moss and Seattle Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, both of whom became free agents at the end of the 2011 season.
In an extended NFL lockout, NCAA football is the understandable winner. The entire nation would get a taste of what it is like to live in the South and Saturdays would rule the fall.
All American sports fans would sit down and watch hockey for the first time. They would be won over by the speed, beauty and hostility of the game without fail. Viewers would be taken in by the game’s rich history and they would learn the names of the players. Hockey would be king here, just like it is in Canada.
Baseball will own the sporting landscape, once the NBA and NHL playoffs wrap up. In July and August, as teams fight for the playoffs, the curiosity and impetus will build up. America’s pastime will be back in action.
2011 NFL Draft Update
With the continuing lockout the 2011 NFL season may be in jeopardy although that won’t stop the NFL Draft, which gets started Thursday night.
Even though most feel Cam Newton will go first, there is still no consensus on who will be the top picks in the draft, or in NFL Draft Betting Odds. Many feel the Carolina Panthers will take the Auburn Tigers standout quarterback as they hold the first pick although there has been no word from the Panthers on that.
How the top teams may draft this week, here’s a look at.
Panthers: Carolina will likely take Newton even with no confirmation though DT Marcell Dareus is also a possibility.
Denver Broncos: The Broncos will likely pick Dareus if Carolina takes Newton. Denver would do well taking the top defensive player in the draft.
Buffalo Bills: Many feel the Bills will go with LB Von Miller, a former standout with the Texas A&M Aggies.
Cincinnati Bengals: For the Bengals, Wide Receiver A.J. Green is the likely pick.
St. Louis Cardinals: None of the football writers who cover the Cardinals think the team will take QB Blaine Gabbert of the Missouri Tigers, although almost everyone else thinks they will.
Judge Offers Conciliation for NFL and Players
A federal judge proposed that for finishing an owner-imposed labor lockout, National Football League players looking for a U.S. court order and they are forcing to undertake to resolve the argument in conciliation.
In a letter to U.S. District Judge Susan Richard Nelson in St. Paul, Minnesota; ten players led by quarterbacks Tom Brady, Drew Brees and Peyton Manning stated their position, after the collapse of collective negotiating talks. They had file a suit against the NFL last month for antitrust violations.
Negotiations with owner’s involvement were suggested by the contents of the NFL’s letter. From earlier conciliations, the lack of most owners’ presence was disturbing to players. A return to the federal mediator George Cohen, who oversaw 17 days of talks, is what the league desires, even though the talks collapsed on March 11.
The principle reason for the lockout is centered on the amount of money that the owners want to take as “credit” from the revenue pool. It was a collective bargaining disagreement. In the earlier agreement, from the pool of roughly $9 billion, the owners took $1 billion. The owners make use of this sum to keep the NFL profitable and it is used for the general endorsement of the league. Citing “the economic realities of the era” as reasoning, this year, they are trying to raise that number to $2.4 billion. To uphold a profit, the owners assert that they require the money.
On the injunction, players in all probability feel they can afford to wait for Judge Susan Richard Nelson’s decision because during the proceeding, Nelson made more than a few comments that they interpreted as supporting some of their positions.
NFL – Rule for Limiting Kickoff Returns
Coach Lovie Smith expressed his disdain for recommended alterations to the kickoff rules and he spoke bluntly unlike Chicago Bears general manager Jerry Angelo.
When NFL owners voted to move kickoffs up to the 35-yard line starting next season, the proposal was passed on Tuesday. Touchbacks will remain at the 20-yard line.
Smith pointed out that the Bears, in the last two years, on kickoff or kickoff returns have experienced only one injury, although the NFL’s competition committee proposed amendments to augment player safety. The Bears do not know if free agency will precede the draft as it normally does, therefore they are not quite sure how they will go about trying to perk up their team.
No matter whether the draft or free agency comes first, a couple of things are definite and those are; the Bears require getting younger men on defense and they require help on the offensive line. In the past, for the offensive line, the Bears mostly have filled holes with veterans and that might not be the case this year.
The rule was put into practice by the league as it found a higher occurrence of collision injuries and especially concussions, on kickoffs. The authentic proposal was personalized by the competition committee. On touchbacks, as an alternative of the 25, the ball will persist to be placed on the 20-yard line and two-man wedges will be allowable. Kickoff cover men, the one besides the kicker must line up 5 yards off the line of scrimmage.
The current odds for Bears in the Super Bowl are 25, while in the NFC winner betting odds, Bears are 12.
Super Bowl Betting – Packers Win Nets Nevada Sportsbooks Smallest Profit
As the public won on the point spread and over/under total, Nevada sportsbooks had their least profit on Super Bowl betting in a decade.
According to numbers released by the Nevada Gaming Control Board this week, Nevada books profited just $724,176 on Super Bowl XLV wagers, with the majority of public bets on the Green Bay Packers to cover the spread as a 3-point favorite against the Pittsburgh Steelers, and on the score to go over the total of 45. On the big game after more than $87 million was wagered, this is the most since 2008.
The Las Vegas Hilton and MGM Mirage sportsbooks both said they took a loss on the Super Bowl. Sportsbook manager Jay Rood, at the Mirage, told Covers.com that Green Bay’s 31-25 win over Pittsburgh was the “the worst Super Bowl loss he’d seen in 25 years,” even though not all books took a loss.
Chuck Esposito, sportsbook manager of the Venetian and Palazzo said, “It was a great result for us. We took in balanced action on both sides, which is exactly what you’re looking for with so much action coming in.”
In at least 10 years the $700K profit was the smallest win for the sportsbooks. In each of the previous two Super Bowls, Nevada sportsbooks made a combined profit of more than $6 million. For the books it was the third straight win as well as 12th in the last 13 Super Bowls.
The New York Giants’ upset of the New England Patriots in 2008 was the last time bettors got the better of the books. $2,573,103, what the game cost the books and which is their largest loss ever. Nevada sportsbooks are up approximately $70 million on the Super Bowl since 2002.
