Atlanta Falcons @ Pittsburgh Steelers 08-27-2011

By | Aug 23, 2011

For a team that had a tough off season, the Pittsburgh Steelers continue to look their very solid selves so far in the preseason. They lost in Week 1, a week that means next to nothing (less than nothing?) in every single since of the phrase, but showed some of their moxie with a 24-14 beating of the hyped Philadelphia Eagles.

Pittsburgh managed to intercept 3 of Michael Vick’s passes on way to a pretty easy win over their in-state rival. Big Ben continues to find ways to prolong plays, fighting off pass rushers and moving just enough to allow his stable of receivers to get open downfield.

The Falcons made some big time moves in the off season as well, getting some defensive line help for John Abraham, trading a lot of draft value for rookie receiver Julio Jones, and resigning some key components like Brent Grimes.

The Falcons, however, are 0-2 in preseason play getting beat by the Jaguars in Week 2 after falling to the Dolphins in Week 1. Both times they looked good in the first half when the starting units were on the field.

Both of these teams are very talented. Even though the Steelers might be getting a little long in the tooth, they are expected to compete for a title once again in 2011-2012. The Falcons, with their new additions, are expected to take the next step and get to that elite level where Pittsburgh has spent a lot of time over the years.
